An unplanned expat blogger behind GoldCrestGrove

Hi, I'm Sophie
I work as a project manager. I'm a parent. Expat living in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually opened a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn't in the original plan. Like many expatriate relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were tough — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and shifting expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines formed. We found places that worked for us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Built GoldCrestGrove
Most information online was either corporate-level relocation advice or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site exists to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Does (And Does Not)
This site IS:
- Practical experience gained from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site ISN'T:
- A resource of a tourism authority
- A sponsored-review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Forward
Our stay in Netherlands continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I will continue recording what we learn.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Sophie
